Lifelong Learning and Upskilling: Why Continuous Education Matters in Agriculture

Agriculture is evolving faster than ever before. New technologies, sustainability requirements, environmental challenges, and digital tools are transforming how farms operate and how agricultural professionals work.

In this rapidly changing environment, learning cannot stop after graduation.

Lifelong learning and professional upskilling are becoming essential for farmers, educators, researchers, and agricultural specialists who want to remain competitive and adapt to modern agricultural practices.

Today’s agricultural sector increasingly requires knowledge of digital tools, data management, smart technologies, and sustainable farming approaches. Many professionals who completed their education years ago may not have had the opportunity to study subjects such as Precision Agriculture, GIS technologies, remote sensing, or digital farm management.

The ReGrow project supports lifelong learning through its Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and online educational resources. In addition to supporting the new MSc programme, the VLE will provide opportunities for vocational education, online training, and professional development for a broader audience.

Digital learning environments can help professionals continue developing their skills regardless of location, work schedule, or previous educational background. This is especially important for rural communities, where access to modern training opportunities may be limited.

By promoting lifelong learning and accessible digital education, ReGrow contributes to building a more resilient, innovative, and future-oriented agricultural community.
